Here are some pearls of wisdom I have picked up over my time!
The PE exam is structured as follows
- Multiple choice questions
- Short answer items
- Extended answer items
- There is one mark allocated per minute so keep an eye on how much time you spend on each question
- Create a clean study environment, free from distractions and plan out how you are going to spend your time (including some down time)
- Complete at least 5 practice exams (more is preferable)(see previous blog for further info)
- Create a glossary of key terms for each chapter
- Create a one page revision page per chapter
- Use reading time wisely and read all Questions (plan out your time)
- Identify key words (use a highlighter during writing time)
- use the correct terminology
- Do not rewrite questions (point form is sufficient)
- If a question asks you to list items, the first items on the list will be taken as your answer
- Only use accepted abbreviations
- Never leave a question unanswered. Always give it a crack
- If a question asks you to refer to the day, REFER TO THE DATA.
- Ensure that your handwriting is neat. If they can't read it, you don't get the mark!
- Be careful not to mix up terms. Common mix ups include:
- Psychological-Physiological
- Myoglobin-Haemoglobin
- Aerobic-Anaerobic
- The use of the term Lactic Acid System is not accepted. Must use the term Anaerobic Glycolysis
As previously stated, your result in the exam will be a direct reflection of how much effort you are willing to put in to your study and revision from this point forward. So take advantage of the great resources you have and then put your best foot forward!
